Terra Incognita

Terra Incognita (2024) is a new collaborative work by composer Ørjan Matre and Hardanger fiddle innovator Erlend Apneseth. Drawing on archival recordings of Norwegian folk music—especially the hymn Alt forvandles skal til støv—Matre’s score answers and refracts sound materials that Apneseth supplied. The world premiere united the Erlend Apneseth Trio and the BIT20 Ensemble for the first time, weaving folk, jazz, electronica, and contemporary sinfonietta writing into a shared space of discovery between tradition and innovation.
