This workshop presentation develops a new bilingual chamber opera rooted in the contemporary immigrant experience. A modern retelling of Cyrano de Bergerac, it is reimagined within the complex social fabric of the United States. Characters—Latinx, Caribeño, white, LGBTQ+, working-class, and first/second-generation immigrants—navigate their dreams and challenges. The musical concept features a ten-player chamber ensemble (two violins, two violas, double bass, guitar, clarinet, bassoon, marimba, percussion). Sung in English and Spanish, the opera reflects the diverse linguistic environment of its setting. This Houston event functioned as a developmental sing-through/workshop for the completed score.
