World premiere of Zesses Seglias’s chamber opera developed in the Bregenzer Festspiele Opernatelier and presented on the Werkstattbühne in August 2017. Following the sudden passing of librettist Ernst Marianne Binder, Olivier Tambosi created a new staging concept that mirrors the work’s psychological focus. Danish artist Jakob Kolding designed a distinctive two-dimensional scenography of collaged silhouettes, flat props, and graphic textures. The singers are often integrated into this visual world as if part of the set, evoking the persistence of memory. The score employs an expanded palette—tam-tam, vibraphone, singing bowls, low flutes, saxophones, accordion, and electric guitar—to voice inner states. Performed by the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg under conductor Claire Levacher, the 80‑minute opera is sung in English with German surtitles. The premiere marked the first major creation to emerge from the festival’s multi-year Opernatelier process.
