A concert of “Sacred songs and music of the late Renaissance” featuring 16 pieces spanning roughly a century of European sacred music, from the mid-16th to the late 17th century, across Italy, Germany, England, and Spain. The program weaves together laudi spirituali, Latin motets, and instrumental sinfonias and recercadas, highlighting the interplay between devotional singing and instrumental practice in sacred contexts. La Rossignol performs on period instruments (recorders, bagpipes, vielle, positive organ, hurdy-gurdy) with two voices (soprano and countertenor), in line with historical performance practice. At its core is Claudio Monteverdi’s “Laudate Dominum” from the Selva Morale e Spirituale (1640), framed by laudi by Serafino Razzi and works by Tye, Ortiz, Pfendner, Malvezzi, Rossi, and Falconiero that chart sacred style from Renaissance to early Baroque.
