Dixit Dominus

Presented within the 48th Festival de Sablé (19–22 August 2026), Dixit Dominus features the Geneva-based ensemble Les Argonautes under the direction of Jonas Descotte. The programme sets side by side two landmark pages of Italian Baroque sacred music: Antonio Lotti’s exquisitely crafted and expressive Dixit Dominus and Georg Friedrich Handel’s Dixit Dominus, HWV 232, composed at just 22 during his Roman sojourn, a burst of youthful fire and dramatic sensitivity. The bold arc of the evening is completed by Lotti’s Miserere mei in C minor. Founded in 2019, Les Argonautes bring a vivid, precise and generous approach to this repertoire, built around a chamber line-up and close dialogue between period instrumentalists and vocal soloists. Recent seasons have taken them to the Grand Théâtre de Genève (Sleepover series, 2022–2025) and the Ambronay Festival. Their recording Dixit Dominus (Aparté, 2024), uniting these very works by Lotti and Handel, was acclaimed by the specialist press (5 Diapasons).
