A cross-art, cross-cultural work blending influences from traditional Chinese opera with contemporary dance and new music. Created by British and British-Chinese artists, the piece bridges cultures, art forms (song, instruments, and movement), and eras (traditional and modern). Composer Li Huan weaves classic Chinese art song with original compositions, heard alongside piano and traditional instruments such as pipa and guqin. Presented by Sister Sarah Productions Ltd within Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2019, the performance integrates song, instrumental music, dance, and projection. Conceived as a sequence of moving, musical koans punctuated by Daoist insights, it pairs playful storytelling with fairytale magic for audiences of all ages.
