Of Body and Ghost is a cross-disciplinary dance-theatre-opera collaboration between dance maker Yolande Snaith, composer Kris Apple, writer/dramaturg Roswitha Gerlitz, and vocalist Barbara Byers. Described as an ethereal rite of passage through the experience of aging, the work fuses movement, text, images, music, and song into a poetic whole. Presented at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2019, it investigates the aging body as a living archive where memory is etched into flesh and bone. The creators juxtapose scientific fact with memory, embodied experience, and fantasy to probe how we confront mortality in the modern world. Ultimately, the piece celebrates presence and the expressive capacities of the human body, with minimal staging and a focus on the performers’ physical and vocal presence.
