This production presents the European premiere of Ellen Reid’s Pulitzer Prize-winning chamber opera Prism at Oper Wuppertal in the 2026/27 season. Tal Rosner directs and designs the video, with Sasha Milavic Davies credited as co-director. Music director Yorgos Ziavras conducts the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra; Ulrich Zippelius is chorus master and Laura Knoll serves as dramaturg. Performed in English with German and English surtitles, the staging integrates projected imagery to create a multimedia exploration of trauma and memory. Recommended for ages 16+, the work engages audiences interested in contemporary opera, psychology, and immersive theatrical experiences. The Pulitzer committee praised Prism for its sophisticated vocal writing and striking instrumental colors that confront the psychological impact of trauma. This marks the first staging of the opera by a European house.
