Eighty years to the day since its first performance, we are thrilled to present Benjamin Britten’s Serenade for tenor, horn and strings, performed by one of the world’s leading tenors and the wonderful Britten Sinfonia. Allan Clayton – the leading interpreter of Britten whose recent portrayal of Peter Grimes “stakes his claim among the greats” (Seen and Heard International) – joins “one of our most vital ensembles” (The Guardian) the Britten Sinfonia for this special celebratory concert. Originally written for the combined musical talents of Peter Pears and Dennis Brain, Serenade is an extraordinary example of Britten’s ability to set a collection of texts bound together by a similar theme, in this case, the world of night, sleep and dreams.
