This concert explores newly created instruments that extend the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle tradition. Alongside the Hardanger fiddle, the program features the Hardanger viola and the Hardanger cello, both crafted by musician and instrument maker Ottar Kåsa. The artistic idea is to bridge the historical and the new—both through the instruments themselves and through the music composed for them. The sound world centers on transferring the Hardanger fiddle’s resonant character, with its sympathetic strings, into the viola and cello registers, expanding color and expressive range. The concept moves at the boundary between folk and chamber music, creating a contemporary, formal concert experience that reimagines Norwegian musical heritage.
