This piano recital by South Korean pianist Ju-Eun Lee is part of the C. Bechstein Klavierabende series at Vienna’s Ehrbar Saal, a historic hall operated by C. Bechstein Wien GmbH. The program pairs two landmark keyboard cycles from different eras. The first half features Bach’s Goldberg Variations (BWV 988), a tour de force of architecture and clarity. After intermission, Lee performs Liszt’s complete Deuxième année: Italie (S. 161) from Années de pèlerinage, inspired by Italian art and literature, including Petrarch and Dante. The juxtaposition highlights a dialogue between Baroque contrapuntal rigor and Romantic poetic imagination. Lee trained in Korea, Munich, and Salzburg, earned top honors, won prizes including the 2006 Jaén International Piano Competition, performed with orchestras in Europe and Asia, and currently serves as Professor of Piano at Changwon National University.
