Four Seasons

Four Seasons is a two-part Dutch National Ballet program presented in June 2021 during Holland Festival. It pairs the Dutch premiere of David Dawson’s The Four Seasons with the European premiere of Christopher Wheeldon’s The Two of Us, offering two contemporary approaches to the classical ballet idiom. Dawson’s The Four Seasons is set to Max Richter’s re-composition of Vivaldi’s score, with Eno Henze’s geometric set elements, Yumiko Takeshima’s costumes, and Bert Dalhuysen’s lighting shaping a clean visual language. Wheeldon’s The Two of Us is a duet to four songs by Joni Mitchell, exploring memory and separation through intimate solos and pas de deux, supported by lighting by Wijnand van der Horst and costumes by Harriet Jung and Reid Bartelme. The program was performed in the Auditorium of Dutch National Opera & Ballet in Amsterdam, with the Dutch Ballet Orchestra led by Marzio Conti, and included a livestream on 15 June 2021.
