The concert evening moves between reflective blues, a sense of the sacred, down-to-earth charm and the scent of the stable. In the program and the album of the same name, “Bethlehem,” she retells the familiar Christmas story anew: about closed doors, a small child, a light that shows the way, and a resounding “Do not be afraid!” For Heger, Christmas is the feast of feasts, a safe harbor, a homecoming — and a big party. Personal memories of large family gatherings, bustling Christmas markets, quiet moments at the crib, quirky customs, wrapping-paper frenzies and dancing around the tree shape the evening. Songs are performed in High German, Low German, and English, accompanied by a four-piece live band.
