A chamber music evening built around the theme of birdsong and fairy tales. The centerpiece is Kevin Lau’s The Nightingale, a newly composed musical narration of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved story, performed with spoken narration by artistic advisor Loki Karuna. Saint-Saëns’s Aviary from The Carnival of the Animals and Messiaen’s Le Merle noir evoke avian color through virtuoso writing, while Chausson’s expansive Concerto for Violin, Piano, and String Quartet closes the program in soaring, lyrical fashion. Together the works explore elegance, wonder, and the expressive power of nature in music. A free pre-concert talk is offered one hour before the performance.
