Blow Up Percussion—renowned for versatility, virtuosity, and kinetic energy across major new-music festivals—presents a program of recent works for percussion quartet, featuring two Italian premieres. Fabrizio Nastari’s Épos (2023) meditates on rhetoric and the concert as a kind of ceremony (with scenography by Federica Zianni). Missy Mazzoli’s Millennium Canticles (2022) draws inspiration from Anne Washburn’s dark comedy Mr. Burns. The program also includes Francesco Antonioni’s …as the memory of it (2019) and Christopher Cerrone’s Ode to Joy (2023), dedicated to Sandbox Percussion and Blow Up Percussion and co-commissioned by the latter, a radiant exploration of joy through luminous harmonies and pulsing rhythms.
