The Pretty Things is a 2022 contemporary dance work by Catherine Gaudet, presented in Reggio Emilia as a national premiere. Five bodies move to the rhythm of a metronome. Small gestures and short phrases recur with controlled regularity and shift almost imperceptibly into the next motif. The sound environment is built from delicate, synthetically processed female voices that breathe beats and establish a regulated musical framework. The production examines connections and resonances, including how they were redefined between Gaudet and the dancers during Covid-19 restrictions. It also addresses disengagement and liberation and considers community and the critical examination of ideals of social coexistence. The production team includes Catherine Gaudet, choreography; Antoine Berthiaume, music; Sophie Michaud, assistant dramaturge and rehearsal director; Hugo Dalphond, lighting design; and Marilène Bastien, costume design.
