About

"XYZ" is an electronic opera fantasy by Vilnius City Opera that replaces the traditional orchestra with live electronic music while preserving the core vocal lines of iconic arias, duets, and choruses. Created with producers from the Silence Family collective, it reimagines familiar opera numbers for a new generation. The project favors raw, industrial spaces such as the former Lietuva cinema and arenas, pairing minimalist scenography and video with striking costumes by leading designer Juozas Statkevičius. Across development, artists prepared 36 reworked pieces, training to sing without a conductor or orchestral cues. Roughly 50 performances pushed classical singers and electronic creators beyond their usual professional boundaries. The aim is to bridge classical tradition and contemporary sound, making opera feel immediate, urban, and current.
