Composed for a small orchestra, the work mixes styles with humor and is interspersed with musical quotations, homages to Wagner, Debussy, Massenet, Stravinsky, Puccini... The story is faithfully inspired by Charles Perrault's tale but Respighi mischievously modifies the outcome by extending the princess's sleep: asleep in the 17th century, she wakes up in 1940 to find the Prince accompanied by a delegation of American billionaires and dance a final foxtrot! For young and old, whether you are a prince or not, fairy or witch, a Sleeping Beauty to discover absolutely. A wonder !
