Birmingham Village Players presents Wendy Kesselman’s recent adaptation of the original play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, which is based upon "Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl." This adaptation restores deleted content, emphasizing Jewish identity and the antisemitism of the time, and depicts Anne in a more realistic and complex manner than previous versions. By weaving in survivor accounts and recently discovered writings from Anne’s diary, the production introduces a new generation to the atrocities of Nazi Germany. The production carries a strict content advisory. It includes themes of the Holocaust, fear, persecution, and confinement, alongside adult language and emotionally intense situations. The final moments of the play portray the raid of the attic by the Nazis and include loud shouting and physical threats to the characters, including the presence of guns. Audience discretion is advised, and the show is recommended for ages teen to adult.
