The “Essence” concert is a focal program of the 2025 Sacrum Profanum festival, uniting three vital aesthetics of contemporary music: minimalism, spectralism, and postinternet art. Curated to foreground radical approaches to composition and performance, the evening juxtaposes works that stretch and reframe the conventions of chamber music. Its centerpiece is the world premiere of a new arrangement of Julius Eastman’s Evil Nigger, reimagined by Tomasz Jakub Opałka for triple string quartet. This sits alongside the Polish premiere of Horațiu Rădulescu’s String Quartet No. 4, a landmark of spectral writing, and the Polish premiere of Jennifer Walshe’s Everything is Important, an audiovisual manifesto of the digital era.
