Conceived amid the halt to touring during the COVID-19 pandemic, On the Road transforms Tafelmusik’s four decades of international travel into a virtual Grand Tour of Baroque Europe. Chamber performances are interwoven with the musicians’ own touring memories—from moonlit music at Athens’s Odeon of Herodes Atticus to impressions of crossing into East Germany in 1987—linking repertoire to lived experience. The journey passes from London’s theatre world to German courts, Parisian refinement, and Venetian brilliance, highlighting regional styles of the 17th and 18th centuries while reflecting on the challenges and joys of traveling with delicate period instruments.
