Concerto grosso is a baroque music concert presented by Trondheim Symfoniorkester & Opera (TSO) in collaboration with the Senter for tidligmusikk. Framed as a celebration of the baroque era, the program spotlights the concerto grosso form—where the vibrant dialogue between a small concertino group and the larger ripieno ensemble showcases both collective power and individual virtuosity. The concert traces the form’s evolution from Arcangelo Corelli’s influential models to its flourishing across Europe in the hands of composers like Antonio Vivaldi and George Frideric Handel. Staged in the atmospheric Herresalen (Lord’s Hall) at Erkebispegården in Trondheim, the event places early music within an acoustically sympathetic historic setting. The string players of TSO Tidlig (TSO’s early music division) perform under the leadership of renowned baroque specialist Walter Reiter, bringing historically informed style, energy, and expressivity to this cornerstone repertoire.
