About the Concert We celebrate the darkest time of the year with an exquisite weave of atmospheric, seasonal music and winter words by Dylan Thomas, Laurie Lee, Charles Dickens, Tove Jansson, C.S. Lewis and more. The winter solstice represents a symbolic dividing line; a sacred moment at the year’s end where old gives way to new, despair transforms into hope and darkness becomes light. Since prehistory humans have celebrated this transition by participating in rituals, often involving food and drink, dancing and music. The winter solstice represents that elemental moment when the sun is reborn- its significance, still to this day, not lost on humanity Director David Le Page
