Pilgrimage is a contemporary music-theatre piece by composer Siebe Thijs. Four bodies move through an ever-changing landscape, tracing a journey at the threshold between individual experience and collective encounter. The work probes the tension between self-interest and shared responsibility, framing travel as a profound meeting that alternates between staying and departing, connection and release. Musically, the piece reworks historical material: Thijs reframes John Dowland’s 1612 song cycle A Pilgrimes Solace to build a new live musical entity. Performers interact with instruments, their own bodies, and sculptural objects, blending music-making with staged movement to form a singular theatrical event. An interdisciplinary team shapes the production, with final direction, scenography and lighting, costume, and choreography, in close collaboration with Muziektheater Transparant and a network of co-producing partners.
