This production is designed as a children’s concert, placing the Little Trumpet as a narrative figure at the center of a musical journey through the instrument families of a symphony orchestra. It is performed at the Großes Haus of the Saarländisches Staatstheater and described in the program as “a sounding introduction to instruments for children.” The musical forces are the Saarländisches Staatsorchester under the musical direction of Justus Thorau. Concept and concert education are by Johanna Schatke, and the texts and mediation are delivered by narrator Gaby Pochert. The work draws on Hans Sandig’s musical journey as a framework to present the different orchestral sections. The format is educational: the Little Trumpet encounters strings, woodwinds, percussion, and brass, discovering timbres and roles within the orchestra.
