Kintsugi

About

Kintsugi is a dance-theatre piece that takes the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold as its central metaphor. The production pairs flamenco dance by Jesús Blanco with live electronic music and sound design by Gerard Marsal, drawing on influences from butoh and avant-garde theatre. The staging emphasizes traces of the body and processes of transformation, setting percussive zapateado against immersive, processed sonic textures. Presented within the Tarragona Sona Flamenc 2020 festival at Teatre el Magatzem, the work explores fracture, repair, and resilience through physicality and sound. It is a largely wordless, movement-led experience that bridges traditional flamenco energy with contemporary performance language.
