Origen is a flamenco dance production by Marco Vargas and Chloé Brûlé that treats the present as the seedbed of tomorrow, celebrating the harvest of what has been planted and the dignity of slowness. Departing from the electronic sound world of their previous work, the creators immerse themselves in popular music, especially the rich Extremaduran Romancero. Historic field recordings made by Alan Lomax in 1952–1953 are interwoven with live flamenco guitar and dance, transforming oral tradition into staged memory. The staging is spare and tactile—wicker baskets, a vase, and a long table dressed with rough jarapas evoke a humble, ancient Extremadura. Elegance arises from simplicity, inviting the audience to watch how time is inhabited and shared. There is no live cante; instead, the dialogue between dancers, archival voices, and the guitars of Miguel Vargas and Raúl Cantizano creates a ritual of listening, gathering, and remembrance.
