Krzysztof Pastor’s Prometheus is a monumental, full-length ballet that reimagines the Greek myth through a contemporary, poetic lens. Premiered on 18 June 2025 by the Polish National Ballet in Warsaw, the work probes the dual nature of fire as both a catalyst for civilizational progress and a force aligned with human degeneration. The vast stage of Teatr Wielki is used to striking effect with Tatyana van Walsum’s sweeping staircase and platform suggesting Mount Olympus, while Bartek Macias’s projections move from celestial skies to ancient rock. A coup de théâtre ignites the set in real flame, binding visual spectacle to mythic symbolism. Musically, Act I pulses with Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 11 and Mad Rush, while Act II shifts to the solemn grandeur of Mozart’s Requiem. The chorus is integrated into the theatrical picture, placed visibly above the pit so that music and movement remain in constant dialogue.
