The Waste Land

The Waste Land is a production by Amsterdam Sinfonietta and ISH Dance Collective combining a live string orchestra with contemporary dance, hip-hop movement, acrobatic dance, and aerial work. The concept is by Marco Gerris and Candida Thompson. Gerris directs and choreographs, while Thompson provides musical direction and performs on violin. The orchestra and movement performers share one stage environment. Dancers Herrold Anakotta, Lars de Vos, and Sophia Mason perform alongside Bencha Theater acrobats Micka Karlsson, Sarah Kooij, and Kenneth Gérard. The production team includes aerial choreographer Rachel Melief, dramaturg Titus Tiel Groenestege, lighting designer Mike den Ottolander, sound designers Rob van der Meijs and Rik Ronner, and costume designer Mirjam Manusama. Music by Farokhzad Layegh, Igor Stravinsky, Max Richter, and Rik Ronner is referenced, but no complete titled programme is supplied.
