The Extraordinary Concert “Salve Regina” traced a journey through sacred choral music of the German and Austrian Romantic period. Curated by guest conductor Dr. Alexander Drčar, head of the conducting department at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, the program was designed to spotlight the distinctive sonority of the Madrigal ensemble and the expressive language of Romantic sacred writing. Hosted at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Bucharest in partnership with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest, the concert spanned from Schubert’s poetic hymns and prayers to Mendelssohn’s grand double-choir psalms, and culminated in the intricate, devotional motets of Brahms and Bruckner.
