Jean‑François Zygel improvises at the piano to accompany a screening of the silent film The Phantom of the Opera (1925), directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney. He crafts a live score that is by turns romantic and mysterious, breathless and impassioned, lyrical and unsettling, mirroring the Phantom’s baroque, flamboyant character. A film‑with‑live‑music event presented in partnership with the TPM Conservatory; the evening centers on the film projection and the pianist’s solo performance, with no pre‑existing score and no additional musicians announced.
