Façade is a collaborative research project by Theater Freiburg and the Documentation Center National Socialism Freiburg (DZNS). Directed by Caroline Anne Kapp, the production probes the hidden layers of Freiburg’s history: behind the city’s aesthetic façade, suppressed stories, erased images, and extinguished lives are brought into public view. Conceived as a mobile, site-specific staging, Façade moves through multiple locations in the city, turning the urban environment into a stage and linking DZNS archival materials with contemporary perspectives. Artistically, it focuses on the tension between the visible and the concealed. Choreographic elements and a dedicated musical layer create a multi-faceted exploration of memory culture and identity.
