A concert performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, BWV 244, on Good Friday at the Cologne Philharmonie, presented by the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne and conducted by Rubén Dubrovsky. The work’s double-chorus design is realized with the professional ensemble Chorwerk Ruhr, with the boys of the Cologne Cathedral Choir taking the soprano ripieno lines. The Gürzenich Orchestra provides the two orchestral groups required by Bach. Six vocal soloists appear: Maximilian Schmitt is cast as the Evangelist and Lukas Enoch Lemcke sings the words of Jesus. The concert is part of the orchestra’s 2026/27 season, which highlights large-scale vocal projects and late-Romantic orchestral repertoire.
