Faaroe is a commissioned collaborative project uniting 18 musicians on stage: the brass section of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Fylkesmusikerne i Trøndelag, melodic and rhythmic percussion, and eight professional singers from Trondheim Vokalensemble. It charts a musical journey into a new soundscape, balancing traditional joik, choral harmonies, orchestral textures, and composer Daniel Herskedal’s distinctive vocal approach to the tuba. The artistic vision centers on the South Sámi concept of "juhtijh"—a nomadic life in constant motion. The driving pulse of joik propels the music forward, encouraging the musicians to shape sounds that illuminate underlying historical narratives. Rooted in regional collaboration, Faaroe draws on Trøndelag’s leading musical institutions to create new music for local audiences.
