»The Game« presents an exciting artistic connection between the dramaturgy of a football match and the creative process of a musical composition. Specifically, the match between St. Pauli and VFL Osnabrück on 12 May 2024 in Hamburg’s Millerntorstadion will be played simultaneously by two musical teams in the Laeiszhalle: Ensemble Resonanz and the band of electronic artist Matthew Herbert, under the direction of conductor Friederike Scheunchen. The audience and musicians follow the game live on monitors; when the ball switches between the teams in the stadium, the music also switches between the band and the ensemble; the »standards« (throw-in, free kick, corner kick) are pre-composed sound images by Matthew Herbert, the rest develops from the dynamics of the game on the pitch. Who will be ahead after 90 minutes? The game will show! Ticket holders for the Reeperbahn Festival 2024 pay a reduced admission fee of 12 euros.
