Couple is a whimsical yet cruel exploration of life as a twosome, probing the violence that can underlie love through intense domestic scenes. The staging centers on a living-room set by Nicolas Sire, where the characters inhabit a single sofa, creating a stifling yet familiar huis clos. Artistic collaboration by Gilles Kneusé, with lighting by Fabrice Combier and sound design by Jean Croc, underscores the sharp shifts between everyday realism and destructive madness. The artistic concept hinges on the contrast between banal conversations (neighbors, a son who has left home) and the raw brutality of the feelings expressed.
