Noli me tangere

Composer-in-residence at Casa da Música, Liza Lim is the creator of the work which kicks off this programme full of premieres. Written in 2005, Songs Found in Dream is a reflection of the blending of different cultures, a thread which flows through Lim’s career. From Isabel Mundry, Noli me tangere is a surprising piece for percussion and ensemble with an apparently paradoxical title. Mundry built the work around a request by the resurrected Jesus for Mary Magdalene not to touch him, challenging the whole physical relationship between the musician’s body and their instruments. Intense sound textures mark the Cuban Jorge E. López’s Triptychon, a work that emphasises the French horn. The programme is part of the Repercussions cycle and is completed with the revival of a Casa da Música commission premiered in 2006: Portugal – a piece by Johannes Maria Staud for solo percussion.
