Utah Opera’s production of The Little Prince brings Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s beloved tale to life through a visually inventive staging directed by Tara Faircloth. Jacob A. Climer’s design features a striking landscape of thousands of handwritten pages, blurring the line between the author’s real-world labor and his boundless imagination. Vibrant, period-informed costumes amplify the story’s whimsy and emotional color. The production places young performers at its heart, with the Madeleine Choir School providing a large children’s chorus and a youth artist in the demanding title role. The Utah Symphony performs Rachel Portman’s richly scored, harmonically warm music in the pit. Originally built in 2019, the same directorial vision and designs returned in 2024 with a new principal cast and conductor. Across both runs, the production balances intimacy and spectacle, keeping the novella’s spirit while making a resonant theatrical experience for all ages.
