Directed by Lisa Peterson, this World Premiere of Wonderland used a cinematic, minimalist staging. The Young Man often sat in a director’s chair, cueing action and narrating through filmic transitions like smash cuts and blurs. Rachel Hauck’s scenic design featured a wood-paneled floor in forced perspective, anchored by a stark white wall with a rectangular window. Through that aperture, Geoff Korf’s aqua-toned lighting suggested the sea and sky changing over time—an emblem of the Pacific and California’s dreamscape. Joyce Kim Lee’s costumes traced assimilation and decades passing from the 1960s to the 1990s.
