Part of Bourgie Hall’s Arts crossroads (Arts croisés) series, this concert brings soprano Elisabeth St-Gelais together with the Orchestre de l’Agora under conductor Nicolas Ellis for a program inspired by visual arts and poetry. Visual artworks are projected during the performance, placing the music in dialogue with images in the museum setting of Bourgie Hall at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The repertoire spans French and French-Canadian music, from Debussy’s impressionist Suite bergamasque (in an orchestral arrangement by L. Heute) to Poulenc’s neoclassical Sinfonietta. Contemporary voices are represented by Sophie Lacaze’s song cycle Après avoir contemplé la lune and Ian Cusson’s Le Récital des anges, which lends the evening its title and focus. The event is conceived for full orchestra with vocal soloist, creating a multimedia experience that aligns with the museum’s architectural and artistic identity.
