Scored for viola, cello, piano, harp percussion and electronics, the piece is described by Gramophone magazine as ‘an exquisite tetralogy in which melodies are thrown up by the music’s very exploration of sound and texture… a musical perusal of light and air, and of visibility, temperature and geology.’ Presented in the round with theatrical lighting, Thorvaldsdottir’s 40-minute work is paired here with solo pieces by Takemitsu, Debussy, Michael Gordon and Ligeti.
