This staged, full-evening presentation of Claudio Santoro’s only opera, Alma, is directed by Christiane Iven and presented by Anhaltisches Theater Dessau within the 2026 Kurt Weill Fest. Musical direction is by Markus L. Frank, with stage realization by Rifail Ajdarpasic. Lighting design is by Guido Petzold, costumes by Ariane Isabell Unfried, and choreography by Marcos Vinicius dos Anjos. The Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, the opera chorus, and the ballet of Anhaltisches Theater Dessau all take part. The notes emphasize Santoro’s synthesis of contemporary compositional techniques with traditional Brazilian musical elements, situating the work in the socio-historical context of Oswald de Andrade’s source.
