Laika is a collectively created visual theatre piece by Xirriquiteula Teatre, developed over a year of work. It is a wordless, multidisciplinary production that tells its story through live animated rear projections, puppets, automata, shadow theatre, and onstage acting. The characters speak in a playful, pseudo-Russian idiom, supported by voice-overs and an original, tailor-made soundtrack that underscores each scene. The production is supported by the Catalan Ministry of Culture and the Institut Ramon Llull, with the collaboration of Badalona Cultura and Teatro Extremo/Festival Sementes. Designed for all audiences (recommended from age 4), it has a clear international outlook. Its quality has been acknowledged with major awards, including the 2021 MAX Award for Best Show for Children, Youth or Family Audiences, the 2019 FETEN Award for Best Authorship and Direction, and the 2018 Catalan Critics’ Award for Best Family Theatre Show, among others.
