Blush is a contemporary dance production that probes the extreme emotions and subconscious instincts that make us blush. Choreographed and directed by Wim Vandekeybus for Ultima Vez, the piece features a mixed cast of ten performers, including Vandekeybus, confronting beauty, ugliness, love, and desire through a punishing, visceral physicality. The staging blends live action with projected film fragments directed by Vandekeybus, creating a porous border between two worlds and intensifying the sensory experience. The original score by David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Wovenhand) underpins the work with a dark, soulful sonic palette, while texts by Peter Verhelst—shaped during the creation process—thread through the performance as soothing words and volatile metaphors. The result layers movement, image, music, and spoken monologue into an ecstatic intensity that touches on the myth of Orpheus as a symbol of lost love and unfulfilled longing.
