Marking the 150th anniversary of the classic Latvian composer Emīls Dārziņš, the State Choir LATVIJA and conductor Maris Sirmais present the concert program “In the Distance of Dreams.” The concert takes place at St. Thomas Church in Jaunpiebalga, a site closely linked to Latvian cultural history. At the heart of the program is Dārziņš’s vocal music, often described as his autobiography — from delicate lyricism to tragedy and solitude. Organist Kristine Adamaite also appears in the concert. Complementing the choir’s sound, she performs works by another Piebalga-born composer, Marģeris Zariņš, as well as Alfreds Kalnins’s Fantasy for organ. The event underlines Dārziņš’s significant place in Latvian vocal music, highlighting his contribution beyond traditional folk-song arrangements.
