Reflection was an interdisciplinary program of music and dance presented virtually by the Lakes Area Music Festival on August 14, 2020. At its center was a world premiere ballet by the Amsterdam-based collective House of Makers (creative directors Peter Leung and Matthew Pawlicki-Sinclair), woven from solo piano works by Erik Satie, John Adams, and Maurice Ravel performed by pianist Henry Kramer. The evening opened with Arvo Pärt’s meditative Spiegel im Spiegel and concluded with Derrick Spiva Jr.’s American Mirror. Broadcast live from Tornstrom Auditorium, the event explored porous boundaries between artistic disciplines and the relationship between performers and audience amid the constraints of the pandemic.
