This production of The Three Musketeers launched the inaugural Grossmont College Theatre Arts Summer Conservatory. The program built a collaborative bridge between local high school students and college theatre artists, creating a pathway from area high schools into the Grossmont College Theatre Arts Department. The 2014 conservatory was fully funded by community donations to the Foundation for Grossmont & Cuyamaca Colleges. The staging combined novice and experienced performers, with students earning college credit tied to their production roles. Technical theatre students trained in scenic construction, costume fabrication, and lighting design, while acting students learned stage combat and period movement for the play’s swashbuckling demands. Costume design was led by in-house designer Esther Skandunas, who taught students sewing and fabrication techniques, repurposing existing garments and creating new period pieces as needed.
