This concert production marked Steven Schick's final performances as Music Director of the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus after a 15-year tenure. The program, titled "Onward," combined Anthony Vine's commissioned world premiere, a Bartok concerto featuring violinist David Bowlin, and Brahms' Second Symphony as the closing work. Vine's opening work continued the La Jolla Symphony's tradition of commissioning UC San Diego graduate students and added electric guitar to the orchestral palette, with Madison Greenstone playing bass clarinet. The program was conducted by Schick and presented by the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus without staging.
