Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars is a thematic chamber music concert designed to complement the McMichael Canadian Art Collection’s exhibition Tom Thomson: North Star. Inspired by Executive Director Ian A. C. Dejardin’s observation that Thomson’s brief four-year career was “less of an arc and more of an explosion,” the program explores musical analogues of artistic brilliance and longevity. One half features works by Mozart, Hyacinthe Jadin, and Schubert—composers whose short lives produced incandescent bursts of creativity. The other half highlights Luigi Boccherini, Felice Giardini, Giovanni Battista Noferi, and Joseph Bologne (Chevalier de Saint‑Georges), figures whose careers burned more steadily across the late 18th century. Presented in partnership with Tafelmusik, the concert experience included gallery admission and exhibition tours, inviting audiences to connect the program’s musical contrasts with Thomson’s visual legacy.
