Prince Hamlet must act: The kingdom, as he knows it, is falling apart. His father, the king, is dead. Perhaps murdered by his own brother Claudius. Hardly is the old king buried when Claudius marries Hamlet's mother and sits on the throne. Hamlet is lonely in his own home and no longer knows who he can trust. So what to do? And with whom? With the help of a theater troupe that comes to the court, he tries out many roles in search of truth – including that of the madman. A game begins with being and appearance, in which madness and reason, role and reality merge inseparably. The actress Julia Riedler shows in her first directing work a joint struggle for truth: Here everyone – Hamlet, Ophelia, Laertes and the royal couple – pretends something to the others, but also to themselves. They are all actors in a drama that they do not fully understand. Can they still influence its outcome? Do they blindly follow the story, or do they find the way to freedom in the game?
